March 26 is Epilepsy Awareness Day

March 26 is Epilepsy Awareness Day worldwide.

Epilepsy is the tendency to have recurrent seizures. Seizures are manifestations of abnormal electrical discharges of neurones in the brain.

These seizures can be motor (convulsions), sensory (abnormal smells and sensations in the body), psychic (abnormal mood and behaviour) or autonomic (changes in heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, bowel movement, sweating, erection etc).

If you have a brain, you can have seizures.

If you have a brain, you can help people with epilepsy to live a normal life.

That young man who was found trying to open a car without being aware. That young lady suddenly giving in to sex without being aware of it. That student who suddenly behaves strangely by staring into space and ignoring others for minutes. That worker who often falls and jerks. That woman who has momentary confusion and does things she has no memory of.

These are examples of seizures and there are more bizarre ones.

I love working to see people with epilepsy regain their joy of living.

Epilepsy is treatable. See your Neurologist.
